Before visiting Hong Kong, we stayed in Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan through AirBnb for 4 weeks (almost all of September 2016). Taiwan was the kick off our 3-months of travel. The stay in Kaohsiung was awesome even though we experienced 2 super typhoons that passed through Taiwan in September. We appreciated the great food, the art, nature, people, and cute dogs and cats (people like to have pets) in the street 🙂
We can’t talk the attraction of Taiwan without these great food! Juicy soup dumpling and mango ice sweets. These delicious foods make us feel like living there.
Kaohsiung has a lot of unique stuff in downtown area. Dragon Tiger Pagoda (龍虎塔), and Formosa Boulevard Station which is said the most beautiful station.
We can’t talk Taiwan without thinking about tons and tons of motorbikes. They even carry their cute pets with their motorbikes. However, it can be annoying and dangerous sometimes.
We still sometimes talk about how great Kaohsiung was to visit. It’s easy to imagine how we missed the lovely city we we left there.
We flew from Kaohsiung to Hong Kong with Dragon Air. Fortunately, we were able to use British Airways (BA) miles for this flight. British Airways is part of the One World Alliance, and it is possible to use the BA miles for flights with their partner airlines. British Airways only charges miles based on the distance that you fly. If the flight is less than 650 miles, it only costs 4,500 miles for a one way flight. Since Kaohsiung to Hong Kong is less than 650 miles, it only cost us 4,500 miles per one way flight in Economy class plus $15 per ticket in taxes and fees.

British Airways miles are easy to collect if you sign up for the Chase British Airways credit card. There is frequently a 50,000 mile bonus for signing up for the card, and spending $3000 in the first 3 months of having the credit card. This credit card does have an annual fee of $95, and it is not free for the first year. Miles usually post within one month of meeting the spending requirement.
British Airways miles are very useful for shorter flights since the cost is so affordable. If using cash these flights can be very expensive. There are many options for shorter flights throughout the world, and it can save people a lot of money when they travel.
